The essence of warmth and luxury, our 'Barika' rug is hand knotted using natural ivory and black sheep wool, woven by Berber weavers of the Middle Atlas Mountains. The clean, geometric, zigzag symbols create a striking contrast with the high pile wool. Traditionally used as blankets during the cold winter months, 'Barika' exemplifies one of the many authentic Beni Ouarain rugs we've discovered in our travels. Unlike mass produced alternatives, these rugs are durable and distinctive, classic...yet contemporary.
Handwoven Beni Ouarain rugs require several weavers weeks of cleaning, hand- spinning, and loom preparation ~ skills that have been passed down from mother to daughter for generations. The graphic symbols uniquely reflect the lives of the weavers, often incorporating themes of birth, femininity, nature or religious beliefs.
