Vintage Glaoua High Atlas Berber Carpet
$720.00
A fine example of a uniquely designed carpet from the Glaoua Berbers of the High Atlas Mountains. Textiles woven by this tribe are renown for their skillful combination of three techniques ~ hand knotting, embroidery and raised pile. Each defines tribal symbolism with expressions of fertility, protection, the natural world and sexuality.
Natural dye plants such as henna, indigo, saffron, cactus, mint and pomegranate have been used to create this vintage beauty with a subtle palette of ochre, red and blue with cream accents from handspun sheep's wool. Color striations in the wide, grayish brown flatwoven stripes are the result of variations in the natural wool color. Fully reversible for a flatweave kilim look. (See last photo)
For those who love color but in subdued tones, this would be a beautiful addition to your home decor. Just the right size for a living or family room.
SIZE: 4'9" x 6'6"
MATERIALS: Sheep’s wool, cotton (warp thread), natural dyes

Please note: Due to the handmade nature of these textiles, wear consistent with age and use is normal. This may include small worn areas, fraying and color bleeding. These imperfections often enhance the character and distinctive nature of each one-of-a-kind piece. When we choose our rugs we make sure that they are in good vintage condition.
Care: Blot spills with cold water. Professional cleaning recommended. Most handwoven textile colors will fade in bright sunlight.
